Youth Philanthropy
The Youth Philanthropy (YP) Initiative empowers local youth—from elementary through high school—to become community leaders through service, fundraising, and grantmaking. It nurtures young philanthropists by promoting partnerships between youth and adults to address community needs, with a special emphasis on youth-led service projects.
Youth Philanthropy Committee
The Youth Philanthropy Committee welcomes students from across Putnam County to support youth, serve the community, and learn how philanthropy works. Students who join the YP Committee serve for the complete school year and participate in service projects, grantmaking, and more.
YP Committee Application
We’re accepting applications for high school students to join the YP Committee. Our application period is closed for the 2026-2027 school year.
Youth Grants
The Youth Grants program is managed by the Putnam County Community Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Committee, with funding from the Putnam County Youth Philanthropy Endowment. It offers grants to youth-led or youth-serving projects and charitable groups that support youth initiatives benefiting Putnam County.
Darrell Wiatt Family Philanthropy Essay Contest
The Darrell Wiatt Family Philanthropy Essay Contest is an annual competition for seventh grade students in Putnam County. Established in 2006 by long-time educator Darrell Wiatt and his family, the contest ensures that no Putnam County student graduates without learning the word philanthropy. Students write 500-word essays about a local philanthropist, with winners earning grants for their schools and chosen charities. Students are invited to participate in a closed application process.
Kids Make Change
Kids Make Change educates second grade students in Putnam County about philanthropy, focusing on giving time, talent, and treasure. The program features lessons on philanthropy, an art contest, and a coin drive to support local causes. Educators are invited to participate in a closed application process.
